January 18, 2024, at 10:00 am: “When Enough is Enough: Setting Personal Boundaries as a Caregiver” – Tina Smith, WellMed Charitable Foundation
Setting personal boundaries is an important step in managing the stress of caregiving. This session will help participants understand what it means to set boundaries, why it is important to set boundaries, and strategies for setting boundaries. Participants will hear strategies from other caregivers on this important topic and will be able to share their own questions and comments.

January 25, 2024, at 10:00 am: “Power of Attorney and Guardianships” – Jessica Fisher Greene, Elder Law Attorney
This presentation will cover common questions that arise when it comes to Power of Attorney and guardianship. Such questions include: What is a Power of Attorney and why does someone need one? What if someone becomes incapacitated and they do not have a Power of Attorney in place? What is a Guardianship and how does someone get one?

February 1, 2024, at 10:00 am: “Opioids: What You Need to Know” – Jerry Mitchell – Attorney General Office
Pennsylvania continues to fight a public health and public safety battle against the heroin and opioid epidemic. Although the recent Pandemic shifted focus away from the Opioid Crisis, we lost over 5,100 Pennsylvanians in 2020 from heroin and opioid overdoses – that’s 14 Pennsylvanians every day! This presentation will discuss what Opiates are, why citizens are at risk, proper storage and disposal of Opioids, and explaining what Narcan is. This presentation also discusses what the Commonwealth is doing regarding the Opioid crisis.

February 8, 2024: “Downsizing and Decluttering” – Carol Remmel – AARP
Having too much stuff can impede people from relocating when they’re ready to downsize or move to a warmer climate, say, or hinder them from getting health care in their homes. This engaging online presentation on decluttering explores why “stuff” is so important for some people to hold on to, and shares practical, easy-to-follow tips on how to declutter and downsize successfully, such as avoiding punting, figuring out what to donate and what to keep, and including everyone in the home in the project. Learn how to get started!

February 15, 2024, at 2:00 pm: “Top 10 Scams Against Seniors & ID Theft” – Jerry Mitchell – Attorney General Office
Scammers and fraudsters target Pennsylvanians every day in an effort to gain access to our money or personal information. They target our emotions in hopes that we will let our guard down and believe the scams they are perpetrating. From robocalls to social media messages, texts to emails, Pennsylvanians must be on the lookout for these “too good to be true” hoaxes. This presentation will break down the top 10 scams currently being used in PA.

February 20, 2024, at 1:00 pm: “Basics of Dementia & Alzheimer’s Disease” – Lori Dierolf
There are few people today whose lives have not been touched by Alzheimer’s or another dementia-related disease, yet many people struggle to know what are the best ways to communicate with and understand those who are living with these diseases. In this session, we will review the physical changes that occur in the brains of those living with dementia-related diseases, as well as how these changes impact their thoughts and behaviors. We will outline best practices for improving communication with individuals who have dementia. Finally, the session will provide simple, practical tools for recognizing and responding to the verbal and nonverbal cues and clues these individuals give to us.
